The North Houston Astronomy
Club will be hosting a free “Community Star
Party” for the public, Saturday, Sept. 10, 6-11
p.m. in the west parking lot of the Kingwood College
campus.
“This is a great opportunity for people of
all ages to come and see astronomical sights with
the help of knowledgeable astronomers,” said
Dr. Aaron Clevenson, Humble Independent School District
board member and avid astronomer.
“The Community Star Party will include a laser
tour of the night sky, opportunities to talk with
local amateur astronomers, look at celestial bodies
through their telescopes and gather information about
local resources to learn more about astronomy.”
A special highlight of the evening will be a raffle
drawing for a 6-inch Skyquest Telescope.
“If you are even thinking about buying a telescope,
the first thing you should do is to explore what options
are available,” Clevenson added. “This
is a great opportunity to do that.”
Other Community Star Party events include: “Ask
the Expert,” a question and answer session;
astronomy software and telescope demos; late afternoon
observations of the sun; evening observations with
several dozen telescopes; and green laser sky tours.
The North Houston Astronomy Club is a non-profit
organization sponsored by Kingwood College and the
North Harris Montgomery Community College District,
dedicated to increasing the awareness and knowledge
of the science of astronomy. Public meetings are held
each month on the fourth Friday. For information on
club activities, including the Community Star Party,
