Kingwood College offers Internet mathematics sections and these classes
may provide an excellent opportunity to pursue a college education for
those who cannot participate in traditional classes on campus.
Prospective
students should be aware, however, that internet based courses require
greater effort, a higher level of commitment and more time on the part
of the student than traditional classroom based courses. This is because
the students are largely responsible for teaching themselves.
Successful students are:
- strongly self-motivated,
- very self-disciplined,
- successful at keeping a schedule for themselves,
- willing to go out of their way to seek assistance,
- comfortable with reading and learning from a mathematics textbook
and
- open to learning new ideas on their own.
You should have the following:
- A working computer with a reliable internet connection.
- If you have a PC computer you should have the latest version of Internet Explorer and at least WINDOWS ME or higher.
Students who have been successful with math classes in the past and/or
students who have successfully completed other independent studies or
distance learning courses are especially good candidates for these classes.
Internet courses are not recommended for students who have
difficulty with mathematics; these students are urged to enroll in traditional
classes. Students are urged to consider carefully the additional challenges posed
by a self study course before enrolling.
These courses have a required textbook and you use eCAMPUS for the course
content.
